Combine equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle. The dog mess contains protein and biological washing detergent is good at breaking this down because it contains enzymes. Spray the area with this solution and then soak up the excess. Add 1 part vinegar to 1 part spring or mineral water to use as an odor removing agent. Using the spray bottle soak the stained area and let the solution sit there for at least 10 minutes. If the diarrhea was really runny then baking soda becomes even more useful. To clean the solution out of the carpet spray the carpet with clean water and then blot it up as you did with the solution. Generously cover the stain with baking soda. Gently rub the baking soda into the carpet fibers.
